According to the survey, which was conducted by dating app Iris on over 1,000 singles from around the U.S., almost a third of respondents said they have judged their dates based on the kind of credit card they had. But men were much more preoccupied with the plastic than women: 45 percent of men admitted to judging their dates based on their credit card, while only 16 percent of women said the same. What are men trying to decipher by checking out your card? Many of the men surveyed said that a miles-based or travel credit card would positively influence their opinion of their date. “A credit card with flyer miles, for example, says [they are] a frequent traveler,” says financial planning expert Steven Orlowski. “This may be a good thing if you’re also an avid traveler, but it may also mean [they] may be away for long stretches of time. If [they have] a rewards card, then it may suggest [they’re] highly strategic with her spending.” Men could also be trying to size up their date’s financial status. They “want to get a peek at their date’s credit card because they believe it provides a glimpse into their date’s spending habits,” says Orlowski. He points out that this information could be useful if the date “happens to be the one, how [he] or she spends money is going to matter a great deal in the relationship.“ae0fcc31ae342fd3a1346ebb1f342fcb RELATED: For more up-to-date information, sign up for our daily newsletter.
