1 A Mother Left Her Kids at Home While Attending to a Family Emergency

According to Tender Lehman, an Iowa mother, she was out of town in Montana due to a family emergency when the fire occurred. Her four children, ages 22, 17, 14, and 8, were sleeping in bed and were not aware that the house was burning down. No smoke alarm went off. Brendon Birt, an aspiring rapper, had taken a wrong turn and was driving down the Lehman’s street, Red Oak, when he noticed the flames. He ran up to the house and pounded on the windows on the side of the house, as he was worried that the inhabitants were sleeping.  3 The Fire Was Worsening Fast
“Like every second that was going by was just getting worse,” Birt said. “I just felt like somebody was in there because it was so late at night, you know? I just knew that I had to act quick.” The entire encounter was caught on the family’s Ring doorbell camera.  4 The Kids Woke Up to the Banging
The children maintain that the stranger’s banging and screaming woke them up. “Everything was just black in the living room. There’s nothing left of it,” said Christopher Lehman. “Walked up into an oven of heat and flames on the front, the front wall,” said Bryce Harrison, the eldest sibling. 5 The Kids Ran Out the Door

While all the children and two dogs made it out unharmed, five dogs did not make it out. The house is a total loss. And on Wednesday, their mother got to meet the hero who saved her children. “They’re safe, and they’re safe because of him. I mean, lives were saved here. Souls,” Tender Lehman said.
